Thoughtful Thor
Tonight Alix and I, along with our friends Nic, Jessica and Rick, visited the local multiplex for a showing of the latest super summer blockbuster, Thor, which in itself is the latest cinema conversion from the vast Marvel franchise. The movie was good, VERY similar structurally to Iron Man. A lot of story development with very decent action spliced into the beginning, middle and end. I'm not as into the Norse mythology stuff so I was less swept up in this storyline versus the more techy/geeky storyline of Iron Man. Also word to the wise, I think the kiss of Thor is enough to make a girl pregnant. I present to you as evidence A, Natalie Portman.
We took the movie in at the new UltraAVX auditorium at the Galaxy theatre here in Saskatoon. That pleasure cost us $16.25 each, including the 3D surcharge. The reserved seating was really nice although I did not like the seating itself as much as the standard stadium seating at the theatre. The sound and picture did seem marginally better than a standard digital screen but not particularly noticeable. In the end I had expected a bit more but it still created a quality movie-going experience. I look forward to seeing Super 8 and maybe Captain America there later this season.
Finally, while I've mentioned this at work a bit I feel the need to put this into writing so as to hold myself to it. I WILL NOT see Transformers: Dark of the Moon in a first-run theatre unless it rates at least 50% on Rotten Tomatoes on opening night. The last iteration was so terrible that it easily made it onto my most hated movie list followed by Spider Man 3 in the action category. If Michael Bay wants my cash he's going to be required by me at least to have learned from his mistake and made this movie at least half decent. The trailers seem interesting at this point, so there may be hope...
Hopefully everyone got their free comics today! Bye for now..
