Radio Riot

Just a quick blog today. I'm looking at starting a new feature of my morning show on CJ-106 called "Guest Host Friday" or at least something along those lines. If you'd be interested in coming in on a friday to be on-air between 8am and 12pm please e-mail me. You have to be available to come in at about 7:45am at the latest on a friday morning and volunteer until noon. You'll get a quick tour and learn a couple things about radio plus get to be live on the air with me! Also on the radio front I might release my first podcast tomorrow but we'll have to see, no promises on that till it's actually posted for download. Be sure to listen in! 106.5FM weekday mornings between 7:30am and 12:00pm is when I'm on-air!

Running Radio

For those of you wondering no, I'm not dead. I have however given up on posting to my blog every day. Why you might ask? I've had no time the past two days workin both jobs to get enough sleep, let alone make a blog post. Hopefully this will only be temporary since I do like having a post everyday.

So how is the new job? Well, after not being on radio at all for almost 3 monthes and with my on-air shift being more then twice as long as my shifts during school I've certainly hit a bit of a learning curve. Hopefully my listeners will stick with me as I work out my shift and start getting better at putting together my breaks and newscasts.

For those of you wanting to listen I'm saddened to tell you that I have yet to find a way to podcast my shows. That will hopefully still be something to eventually see the light of day, just don't start holding your breath quite yet. My show, the "Jay-on-your-Day Morning Show" is currently live from 7:30 - 12:00 on 106.5 FM, but I'm thinking about pushing it back to 8:00 - 12:00 to give me a 4 hour shift and more time in the morning to prep.

Besides my show I'm also going to be running the station over the summer so I'm currently trying to learn as much as I can so that if any problems should arise I'll hopefully be able to fix the problem and keep the station on the air. All of this combined with my continuing shifts at Wal-Mart have kept me incredibly busy and I've ended up taking my laptop to work every night so that I can do show prep on my breaks.

But I'm afraid it's time for bed now, talk to you all again soon!

Joking Jaime

Well I must say that my greatest accomplishment for today was temporairily convincing Jaime that today was my last day at Wal-mart. She believed me at first since tomorrow is my first day at my new radio job which lasts till just before school starts back up, but eventually she got suspicious and tried to get me to bet my iPod on whether or not I was telling the truth. I should've just agreed to it, then I'd have a reason to get one of those new ones with the colour screen...

Yes tomorrow is my first day at my new radio job at CJJJ 106.5 FM and I'm super pumped because I don't have to be there till 8:30 tomorrow morning (most mornings I'm going to be expected to be there by 6:00!) I'm also a little bit nervous but such is the way things are whenever met with a new challenge. I'll tell you all when I find out when my first morning show will be although I'm hoping to have a podcast of my show up and running fairly quickly.

While today might not have been my last day at Wal-Mart it was certainly the last day that it was my primary job. It's likely it will retake that crown in the fall but one thing at a time. Today was a slightly understaffed day and for some reason it seemed dark in the store all day. We confirmed plans for our baseball game next week so if you work at Wal-Mart on the evening and/or weekend shift give me a shout, it's sure to be a good time.

Tomorrow of course is my first day as a government employee working as a temporary manager for the radio station. That's starting things off at 8:30. Afterwards at 5:30 I have another shift at the store, it's gonna be a full day!

Living Live

Well today was Live 8, supposedly the greatest event of our generation. Perhaps if I hadn't been at work for most of the show I'd appreciate it more. I just don't see why they couldn't make it one big podcast so I could listen to it anytime that was convenient for me. I'm all about making poverty history, it's just gotta be on my schedule is all. C'mon, I'm busy.

Work today was OK but I'm starting to get the feeling that we either need to devote ourselves to our current store or move to the new building already. I'm getting sick of this inbetweeny feeling, even though the move is really just getting started. The other worrisome thing is that our new store is a prototype. Which means that while we get all the cool new toys to play with not all of them will necessairily work. Managing this thing at least at first is going to be a bitch I'm sure and I think our managers are getting stressed out enough as it is...

After work today I watched a bit more Live 8 before CTV weirdly went off the air. After I got sick of watching Live Static I popped in a videocassette *shudder* and watched "Deep Impact." A classic movie for the ages, sort of. Tomorrow I work again, though not till later on in the afternoon (which is kind of weird.) Then Monday morning is the big day where I start my new radio job. Time to find myself a lucky t-shirt I guess.

Crazy Canada

Well for all of those international visitors out there today was Canada Day up here in the nation of the true north strong and free. The biggest party day of the year, a day to set aside your worries and just have some fun. I love this day.

I spent today at my parents cabin which is just 10 minutes south of Riding Mountain National Park. I went up last night and spent some time today at the park having a picnic, listening to some "traditional" music and getting my fab paper Canadian Flag and a tattoo of a maple leaf.

Tonight was spent doing what else, watching fireworks. I have to work tomorrow at nine in the morning (damn store) so I'm typing this post in the back of my sisters car as we're heading back to Brandon. I'm really starting to get sick of work. Thank god my new job starts on Monday, giving me something other then the store to think about...
